These extended sessions are here to support
deeper, more concentrated care after intense life events.
One moment you’re seemingly fine, and the next you receive news or experience an event that totally rocks your world. In therapy terms, we call this “acute trauma”. But you may experience it as a total life disrupter, intrusive thoughts, heightened anxiety, difficulty sleeping, and now you’re not totally sure how to move forward. From motor accidents and medical trauma, to death, grief, and natural disasters, it’s best to start processing through these moments as soon as possible.
These more frequent sessions are designed to help your nervous system process what happened more fully sooner, rather than pushing it aside and hoping it fades on its own.
A car crash can leave you replaying the moment long after it’s over. Your body reacts before your brain can catch up - gripping the steering wheel tighter, avoiding certain roads, or not getting in a car all together. Therapy intensives give us space to process so your nervous system can settle and being in a vehicle doesn't feel like a constant threat.
An unpleasant or scary medical experience may have been quick, but the impact lingers. Appointments now bring up anticipatory anxiety, tension, or a feeling of losing control in your body. We can work through that experience so future care feels more manageable and your body isn’t bracing for the worst.
Grief can feel disorienting. Trying to function while carrying something this heavy comes in unexpected waves. Our work focuses on creating a space to process the loss more fully, instead of squeezing it into small pieces week by week.
Experiencing a natural disaster can shake your sense of safety and predictability. Even after things look “normal”, your body may still feel hyper-aware or unsettled. Intensives give you time to process so your system can recalibrate and feel steadier.
Our team is trained in brain-based therapy. This relies on your brain’s ability to reorganize itself with new information to promote healthier, sustainable behaviors and emotions.
We don’t believe in weight-centric or shame-based approaches to mental health. Our work focuses on returning to internal cues and health-promoting behaviors, regardless of your body size.
Two-hour sessions, up to multiple days a week that are designed for depth and efficiency. This allows us to explore deeper processing without stopping just as momentum builds.
Hello Me Therapy is in-network with OHP Health Share / CareOregon, Aetna, Pacific Source (commercial plans only), and Moda. Intensives are isolated therapy appointments that are longer than a weekly session and are targeted to help someone get movement on a challenging symptom or issue. Intensives can often help with momentum and relief. They are great if a topic might feel “too big” or “too intense” to bring up in weekly therapy. Intensives often look like 2 hour brain-based therapy sessions, multiple times in a week. Clients who complete intensives often feel like they have done multiple weeks of therapy in a single session.

Some insurances will cover a portion of the intensive, however this is dependent on each individual’s plan. We are happy to supply a superbill that you can utilize for reimbursement, but coverage depends on each individual’s plan.
Back to the questions
Absolutely! Intensives are great for trauma’s that might be hard to access, might have felt too intense to attend to in the past, or it just wasn’t the right time. We can can see if resolving any past trauma can help relieve symptoms you are currently experience.
Back to the questions
For new clients, we typically first need to do an intake assessment to make a plan for the intensive. For an intensive day, we recommend doing it on a day as free from stress as possible. This often means taking the day off of work or doing it at the end of a work day. Oftentimes people will feel tired afterwards and it’s important to not make any big life decisions or to be as free from obligations as possible. Participants need to avoid all mind-altering substances for five hours before and after session. This includes caffeine, cannabis, alcohol, and any non-prescribed medications.
